An ancient tribe of semi-nomadic pastorals, many of whom still live and dress according to ancient traditions.The Himba live in scattered settlements throughout the Kunene Region. Of the many interesting cultural features encountered among the Herero-speaking peoples of Kaokoland, the ritual fires of the Himba are the most intriguing. At the basis of religious thinking lies the belief in a Supreme Being called , who is generally regarded as the Creator of all things. The ritual fire may only be generated by means of ritual fire sticks called of which each lineage-head keeps a special set.
